Year 1 Program Overview
The first year of PCCMT’s Massage Therapy program builds the scientific knowledge and foundational clinical skills required for safe and effective therapeutic care. Students develop hands-on treatment abilities while learning the biomedical sciences that support professional massage therapy practice.
During Year 1, students study:
- Anatomy and physiology
- Medical terminology
- Foundational pathology
- Foundational massage techniques and treatment approaches
- Introduction to clinical assessment
- Hydrotherapy applications
- Professional ethics and standards of practice
- Muscle palpation and anatomical landmark identification
After completing the first three modules, students begin providing treatments to members of the public in PCCMT’s supervised Student Clinic. This early clinical exposure allows students to apply their developing skills while receiving guidance and feedback from instructors.
Year 1 learning is delivered through a combination of:
- Online academic study – 20 hours per week
- In-person classroom instruction – 16 hours per module
- Supervised clinical practice in the PCCMT Student Clinic
This blended learning model allows students to build a strong theoretical foundation while developing the practical and professional skills required to progress into the advanced clinical training delivered in Year 2.
