
Program Details
Year 1 Program
Program Length: 8 months
Availability: Weekends (one weekend per month)
During the first year of the program, students build a strong foundation in the sciences and practical skills that support massage therapy practice. Students begin developing the hands-on competencies and clinical awareness required for safe and effective therapeutic care.
Students study:
- anatomy and physiology
- medical terminology
- pathology fundamentals
- foundational massage techniques and treatment approaches
- introduction to assessment
- hydrotherapy applications
- professional ethics and standards of practice
- muscle palpation and anatomical landmark identification
After completing the first three modules, students begin applying their developing skills in supervised clinical settings. Students provide treatments to members of the public in PCCMT’s Student Clinic while receiving guidance and feedback from faculty. This early clinical exposure helps students build confidence, communication skills, and professional practice habits.
Year 2 Program
Prerequisites: Year 1 Program
The Year 2 program at PCCMT is after successful completion of Year 1 at PCCMT
Mid-program transfer into PCCMT is not eligible at this time.
Program Length: 10 months
Availability: Weekends (one weekend per month)
In the second year of the program, students expand their clinical knowledge and refine their treatment skills while developing the clinical reasoning required for professional practice.
Students study:
- advanced orthopedic assessment
- evidence-informed treatment planning
- remedial care and therapeutic treatment approaches
- advanced pathology
- research literacy and the application of evidence to practice
- advanced muscle palpation and anatomical identification
Throughout the year, students continue treating members of the public in PCCMT’s Student Clinic under faculty supervision. This ongoing clinical experience allows students to integrate assessment findings, treatment planning, and professional communication while preparing for entry into professional practice.
Preparing for Professional Registration
Massage therapy is a regulated health profession in British Columbia. Graduates who wish to practice as Registered Massage Therapists must meet the registration requirements established by the College of Complementary Health Professionals of British Columbia (CCHPBC).
PCCMT’s Massage Therapy program is fully accredited and prepares graduates to apply to write the regulatory board examinations required for registration.
Following graduation, PCCMT also offers a board preparation course to help graduates review key material and prepare for the licensing exams.
